The 'Costes' chair was used in 1981 for the design of the famous Café Costes, on the Place des Innocents in the first arrondissement of Paris, characterized by the use of highly functional, resistant models and simple materials. Designed with a tripod to prevent it from being too cumbersome and obstructing the movements of servers. The chair, wider, takes the tripod model of the Costes chair and was created the following year for the office of French President Mitterrand at the Elysée. Indisputable symbols of elegance and comfort, this chair and armchair (the latter known as “Pratfall”) became icons of contemporary design in the 1980s.
